Hove Folk Club means:
Who could ask for more?
The club opened on 5th September when we were proud to be joined by the incomparable Maggie Holland (read a report of the opening night here, and a report of Reg Meuross's appearance in October here.).
We will continue to subvert the empty mannerisms of Spectacular Society and The Festival on the first Friday of every month. Provocatively, we are calling this the Hove Folk Club: partly because calling anything an Acoustic Club or a Roots Club sounds even worse, and partly because we wish to reclaim the concept of folk music from the Professional Museum Curators who currently claim to define it in their Perpetual Tours of Art Centres, Festivals & interviews in the Guardian.
One of the many attractive features about the Eclipse is the fact that on Fridays it continues to serve customers until midnight. The idea is that the music ends around 11, so anybody needing to catch trains elsewhere can do so, whilst those who don't can have time for a parting glass.
We reconvene the events next on 7th November, with the superb songwriter Leon Rosselson. We hope to see you there.
The residents are Robb Johnson (thoroughgoing singer-songwriter) and Robert Rankin (novelist and stark raving genius). Floor performers are very welcome.
Hove Folk Club: "A cracking little club with a great feel" - Reg Meuross
DAMIEN : 5th December 2008

Front-man of Pressgang, with a hurdy-gurdy.
"Damian plays hammered dulcimer, hurdy gurdy and guitar. He sings, and even dances. He regards himself as much a performer as a musician and singer. He cares passionately about his playing and singing but refuses to play the game where expectations of folk music are made, always performing to the spirit of the song."
